Barloworld fraud alert - Selling of vehicles

Barloworld Motor Retail South Africa a division of Barloworld South Africa (Pty) Ltd would like to issue an urgent warning about fraudulent vehicle sale scams using either Barloworld’s name or variations of the following names:

  • Barloworld Automotive
  • Barloworld Armstrong
  • Barloworld Armstrong Durban
  • Barloworld Armstrong Durban CC

Methods used

  • adverts offering vehicles for sale under the names listed above are placed in the media on amongst other, social media platforms, online websites, as well as newspapers;
  • potential purchasers are often presented with realistic looking offers to purchase, finance documents and application forms to complete;
  • Fraudsters request monies/ deposits to be deposited into their bank account by the potential purchaser to process the so called purchase transaction;

Contact Persons and Email addresses used in the scam

  • Fraudsters are often using the following contact details
    • Gmail/webmail mail addresses as their contact email address;
    • cell-phone numbers as their contact numbers;
    • incorrect landline numbers not used by Barloworld;
    • or create a fake email address which appears to be a legitimate address e.g. hrjobs@barloworld.com

Barloworld Motor Retail South Africa a division of Barloworld South Africa (Pty) has no association whatsoever with the entity trading as Barloworld Armstrong Durban CC, of 78 Sylvester Ntuli Road, Durban.

Members of the public must be vigilant in connection with what appears to be Barloworld related sales activities and should in the first instance check the Barloworld and Barloworld divisional websites for the authentic contact numbers and e-mail addresses.
